Genre: Mystery, Suspense, Thriller

When Ben Towers receives a lucrative publishing contract for his debut novel, it is most definitely a dream come true.

But there's just one problem.

His former best friend, Josh, takes to social media claiming that the idea for the book was stolen by Ben. Now Josh will publish the true manuscript as an Indie author.

The controversy drives interest in the book through the roof, and although this pleases Ben's publisher, they ask him to confirm absolutely that the book is indeed his idea, as lawyers are now necessary.
When Josh is shut down in all his avenues, the pathway to the release event is clear. Or so Ben thinks...

Author Bio

I love writing adult paranormal fiction. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts....oh my. I've been writing since I was 11 but I've always been a dreamer......often getting caught staring off into space as I created stories in my mind.

When not spending time with family I enjoy dragging my forever patient wife to watch my beloved St George Illawarra Dragons, going to the movies for the latest blockbusters, going to the gym for my dream body. Or just a body. Anything, really.

My beautiful wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world. My fans have declared him the Prince of Speerverse and claim he seems to take after me in his want to build the tension as high as possible...making us and our loved ones wait 3 long days for him to make his entrance. My wife and I live with the love of our lives in Sydney, Australia; the setting for the majority of my works.

Meet The Author

Welcome all.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Andrew Mackay author of In Their Shoes series

ME:  Hi Andrew, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
ANDREW MACKAY: Former teacher and screenwriter, although I still do the latter. Bestselling author of satire series In Their Shoes, and am moving into crime and horror

ME: Which writers inspire you?
ANDREW MACKAY: John Cleese, Martin Amis, Hunter S Thompson, Douglas Adams

ME: What are you working on at the minute?
ANDREW MACKAY: Versus - a crime/thriller about a school shooter and a radicalized Islam bomber who enact their atrocity on the same day.

ME: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
ANDREW MACKAY: Ellie Goulding would be perfect for Joy Attwood, from In Their Shoes

ME: When did you decide to become a writer?
ANDREW MACKAY: When I was very young. I have always wanted to tell stories.

ME: Do you write on a typewriter, computer, dictate or longhand?
ANDREW MACKAY: At first, pen and paper. Now I use Final Draft for screenplays and Scrivener for Novels

ME: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just to see where an idea takes you?
ANDREW MACKAY: I always have a broad outline, but it's usually in mind. If I forget something, it didn't deserve to be included. I'd say 40% outline, 60% "pantsing"

ME: Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors.
ANDREW MACKAY: I don't read as much as I'd like to. My favorite authors are John Cleese, The Gibbons Brothers (Alan Partridge), Douglas Adams, and a lot of biographies.

ME: Do you think that giving books away free works and why?
ANDREW MACKAY: Hmm, not sure. It does if you can compel the reader to actually read the book if they got it for free. I try my best!

ME: How do you relax?
ANDREW MACKAY: I'm a movie obsessive. It helps my writing. Also, I love to walk, play certain video games and I also play badminton

ME: What is your favorite book and why?
ANDREW MACKAY: Probably The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy. I also love of Mice and Men, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

ME: What is your favorite quote?
ANDREW MACKAY: Don't email when you can call, don't call when you can see in person. (One of mine.)

ME: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
ANDREW MACKAY: Just start typing. Your first draft and even your first book will be shit. Just get over it. Pass that point, and get on with it. You'll improve. Don't start making excuses (classic: I'm not ready yet). If your fingers work, you have a keyboard and a half decent idea, then there's just no excuse.

ME: What does your writing process look like?
ANDREW MACKAY: Brain, fingers, monitor. I have an idea, and never write it down. if it stays in my head, it's earned its place in my brain. I establish the beginning, middle and end. And then I start typing.

ME: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?
ANDREW MACKAY: Marketing. I'm okay at it, but I could be so much better. That said, the frequent production of material is the best marketing advice I could ever give. Keep writing, keep publishing.

ME: Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?
ANDREW MACKAY: Not really. I can write pretty much everything. My stuff is very edgy, more than most - the real test for me is holding back.

ME: Did you learn anything from writing your book(s) and what was it?
ANDREW MACKAY: Oh, definitely. My first book, compared to my newest isn't as well written. This comes from edit notes you accrue over the course of a few books. The next book you write, you're trying to learn from the notes and improve yourself. it's not a concerted effort - you have no choice but to do this. It's instinctive thinking "okay, I'm not making that mistake again, and I want less notes from my editor, particularly from my shoddier aspects of writing!"

ME: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
ANDREW MACKAY: Definitely certain online groups, especially on Facebook. The author community, on the whole, is quite tight knit and a lot of authors all know each other.

ME: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
ANDREW MACKAY: I trust my faith in myself. But there's always that tiny, tiny part of you that says "are you sure you're ready to start writing" before you embark on a book. It gets easier to shut that f**ker up the more books you write.

ME: What book are you reading now?
ANDREW MACKAY: I'm ashamed to say I am not. If anything, I'm reading my own, latest book - Versus. It's out on July 27th.

ME: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
ANDREW MACKAY: I'd like to meet John Cleese and film director Larry Cohen before they die. they're in their seventies. I don't want to ask them anything especially. I just want them to talk to me, and for me to tell them that, without them as my idols, I'd never be doing this.

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to write about?
ANDREW MACKAY: I love comedy because I like to make people laugh. I like edgy, hardcore stuff because I like the shock value. I like crime thrillers because of the thrill (duh!) Also, I love horror because I like to disturb people. Not in a stupid way, but in a way, that makes readers think.

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to read?
ANDREW MACKAY: I love reading humor, mainly. Autobiographies are a close second.

ME: What secret talents do you have?
ANDREW MACKAY: What can I say, I am blessed in one particular respect which I cannot mention here. I am a relatively good magician and really quite persuasive. You develop those last two skills as a teacher. A fundamentally skillful liar - which, I guess, helps when you write fiction.

ME: Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?
ANDREW MACKAY: Australia. It's the only part of the world I've not visited as yet.

ME: How can readers discover more about you and you work? i.e. Website: Blog: Facebook: Twitter: Lnkedin: Pinterest: Amazon Author Page: Smashwords: Book Links: (* American, UK, etc.) Goodreads:

ME: Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?
ANDREW MACKAY: I don't think so! A good set of questions, thank you!

ME: Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

BLURB:  It was only a matter of time before the school shooting craze hit UK.

Disaffected teenager Daryl is going to shoot up his high school on Wednesday. His classmate, Fariq, is going to blow himself a suicide attack at the same place and time.
One is doing it for the notoriety, and because he'll be the first. The other is doing it in the name of his religion. Neither of them know of each other's plans, but both know the media will make them superstars.
Pick up this relentless and unflinching cautionary crime thriller today... and hug your loved ones a little closer tomorrow.

Could Maura's life get any worse? ...turns out it most certainly can.
Isolated and sheltered by her lonely mother, Maura's never been able to make friends. She seems to drive her classmates away—except for the odd times they pay enough attention to torture her—but she doesn’t understand why. Maura considers herself to be a freak of nature, with her unusually pale skin and an aversion to the sun that renders her violently nauseous. Her belief is only worsened by the fact that almost everyone around her keeps their distance.
Even her own father deserted her before she was born, leaving Maura alone with her emotionally distant mother, Caelyn. Even though Maura is desperate for answers about her unknown parent, Caelyn remains heartbroken and her daughter can’t bring herself to reopen her mother’s wounds. Or is there a more sinister reason Caelyn refuses to utter a word about her long-lost love?
When a cruel prank nearly claims Maura’s life, one of her classmates, Ron, rushes to her rescue. Darkly handsome & mysteriously accepting, Ron doesn’t seem to want to stay away, but Maura is reluctant to get too close, since her mother has announced she’s moving the two of them to Vancouver…nearly 3,000 miles away from their hometown of Indiana, Pennsylvania.
If life wasn’t already challenging enough, Maura begins to experience bizarre, physical changes her mother seems hell bent on ignoring, compelling Maura to fear for her own life. Vicious nightmares, blood cravings, failing health and the heart-shattering loss of Ron—as well as the discovery of a tangled web of her own mother's lies—become obstacles in Maura's desperate quest for the unfathomable truth she was never prepared to uncover.

Welcome all.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Aaron L Speer author of The Undeadly Secrets Series and The Independents Series.

ME:  Hi Aaron, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about
yourself and your background?
AARON l SPEER: I’ve been writing since about 11. I finally got a kick up the arse to get a book down after some personal life drama. Using the rage and disappointment in a positive way. Since 2014 I've released 3 novels, 2 short stories, gotten married and had a son.

ME: I hear you recently became a daddy for the first time, how is fatherhood treating you?
AARON L SPEER: Absolutely amazing. Another dream I’ve had since a boy came true. Kaiden Leslie. Rough nights, lack of sleep and many frustrations. But he’s a beautiful little boy, loved by everyone. They want to steal him btw

ME: Any tricks or tips that have really helped you adjust to parenting?
AARON L SPEER: Listen to the mum lol. We try to work it out between ourselves what's going on. But she's with him 90% of the day while I work.

ME: Which writers inspire you?
AARON L SPEER: JK Rowling. Her story of rags to riches definitely. I think it shows that if you write for the love of books and telling a story you just HAVE to tell, not making money, you’ll always succeed

ME: What are you working on at the minute?
AARON L SPEER: Pack Master. Book 4 in the Undeadly Secrets series

ME: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
AARON L SPEER: Margot Robbie as Alex. Both cute, both blonde and both Australian

ME: When did you decide to become a writer?
AARON L SPEER: I didn't. I just get sensationally bored and my imagination just takes off. I drove my school teachers insane by finding doodles of mine about various torture devices I'd use on them should they give us any more homework. "Mr. Speer do you think this is funny?" "Absolutely hilarious" "Do you have any intent to carry out these threats?" "Of course not. If I did, they'd be MUCH worse"

ME: Do you write on a typewriter, computer, dictate or longhand?
AARON L SPEER: Mostly computer. But I’ve been known to go longhand when none are around

ME: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just to see where an idea takes you?
AARON L SPEER: Definitely a plotter. But not strict. The story goes in ebbs and flows. Sometimes one plot I have in mind just doesn’t match up later. Happens all the time

ME: Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors.
AARON L SPEER: Valerie Roeseler and Virginia Johnson are my fav indie authors. I don’t actually read as much as I should, I'm writing too much usually lol

ME: Do you think that giving books away free works and why?
AARON L SPEER: It depends on what you're aiming to do. To get people to be introduced to your work, to have knowledge a new person has the book? Sure. But works as in makes sales, generates new fans etc. then you still have to be
very lucky. The person may have heaps of books they have won or received, your just one. You have to hope they bump you up the list. You have to hope they love it AND will rave about it, THEN one click your others. There is a chance it could go either way, just like anything. I think it’s up to each individual author to decide what their expectations are when giving things away.

ME: How do you relax?
AARON L SPEER: Listen to music. It’s how I meditate

ME: What is your favorite book and why?
AARON L SPEER: The Godfather

ME: What is your favorite quote?
AARON L SPEER: “Live a good life. If there are gods, and they are just, you will be accepted into their afterlife based on that. If there are no gods, you have lived a good life, what does it matter? If there are Gods and they are unjust, why would you wish to exist in their presence?” - Marcus Aurelis Emperor of Rome

ME: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
AARON L SPEER: Go with your gut. And remember why you are doing this. For your love of stories

ME: What does your writing process look like?
AARON L SPEER: Long time staring at a screen. Chin in hand lol.

ME: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?
AARON L SPEER: Doubting as the story is coming together.

ME: Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?
AARON L SPEER: The settler. Where the inner monologues happen. Setting the building blocks in between the action scenes so they make sense. Characters thoughts etc. Trying to make the reader see things as I do in the story, because it doesn’t always happen

ME: Did you learn anything from writing your book(s) and what was it?
AARON L SPEER: To listen to the characters. They know more about themselves than I do

ME: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
AARON L SPEER: My amazing support group. Ladies that have been with me since the absolute beginning. Jo Lawless, Jess Davey and Alice Ballinger

ME: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
AARON L SPEER: Finding the time. Biggest issue

ME: What book are you reading now?
AARON L SPERR: Book of Souls by Steve Smithen

ME: What are your current projects?
AARON L SPEER: Pack Master. Book 4 in the Undeadly Secrets series

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to write about?
AARON L SPEER: Paranormal and fantasy

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to read?

ME: How can readers discover more about you and you work? i.e. Website: Blog: Facebook: Twitter: Lnkedin: Pinterest: Amazon Author Page: Smashwords: Book Links: (American, UK, etc.) Goodreads:

ME: Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?
AARON L SPEER: Thank you to any and all readers that might see this. I can’t tell you how much we as authors love you

ME: Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

AARON L SPEER: You are very welcome my dear. Anytime.
