Must Read Monday

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ THAT YOU SHOULD TOO!

X-Treme Confusion, book one

Author: Taylor Johns
Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Blurb: Bent over, ready and wanton.
No strings attached.
No second dates.
That’s the way I like things.
Fast, hard and easy cleanup.
I am a busy man with a dark past.
I don’t need the distraction or drama that comes from a real relationship.
Call me a jackass but at least I am honest about it.
There’s only one woman that makes me want more.
One woman who has worked her way into my soul. The thing is she doesn’t know it.
Soon, soon I will have her. But once I do, I know I will destroy her. My darkness will over take me and I will ruin the only good thing in my life.

My Review: This is the first book that I have read from the author and I am so glad I got the chance to read this one. The main male character Xavier (X) is one serious Alpha Male with major issues that makes you want to hate him but deep down has a sweet side that makes you fall in love with him. The main female character Lillian (Lilly) is a strong independent woman with a smart mouth that tells it like it is and take no crap from anyone especially from X. This book is hot and steamy from beginning to end. X and Lilly fight to avoid their attraction to each other knowing a relationship is a bad idea that can only end bad. When they can't keep their hands off each other, they have a hot and heavy world wind of fun until it is ruined by a cowardly mistake. Only a horrible tragedy can help them find their way back to each other. This book will take you on a wonderful emotional roller-coaster ride leaving you hot and breathless. I would recommend this book to any over 18 who is looking for sizzling page turner!

I Am ShelbyJames (Beauty in the Darkness Book 1)

Author: Brooke Lee
Genre: Bisexual Erotic Romance

Blurb: I am Shelby James - self-loathing poet and artist, daughter, sister, best friend, and bisexual commitment-phobe. My life has been a lackluster existence. The only constant bright spot in my life my best friend, my soul-mate, Veronica "Roni" Monroe.
For years, I have given into my lust for both men and women, but now, at the age of thirty-two, I realize I need more than just a booty call.
I need more.
While on my search for “more”, I find much more than I bargained for. This time, giving into my urges may destroy everything good in my life.
Follow me on my journey to find my happiness. To find the real me.
To find the beauty in the darkness.

My Review: First I must say I won a free e-copy of this book from author Brooke Lee with no promises of anything in return. The author tackles the difficult and sometimes taboo subject of bi-sexuality and does a wonderful job of it. The use of art and poetry as an outlet that the main character Shelby uses to help deal with her emotions, insecurities and bouts of depression that plaque her is awesome and easy to relate to. Even though this book could fall in the erotic category because of the hot, steamy sex scenes there is a really good plot about a struggling artist learning to love herself and except the love of others. I recommend this book to anyone over 18 and can't wait to read more from this author.

Night Walker (Undeadly Secrets Book 1)

Author: Aaron L Speer
Genre: Adult Paranormal Fiction

Blurb: Raised by her aunt as a baby after the death of her father and her mother being institutionalized, Alexandra "Alex" Hensley grew up determined to put the past behind her. As such, her boyfriend Matt and best friend Lauren, became her new family, and her love for them was unquestioned.
On a night out, the trio meet Dante Delavega, owner of the hottest nightclub in Sydney. Despite Lauren's advances, Delavega hovers over Alex like a mysterious, protective shadow, all but completely ignoring her friends. His actions flatter Alex but confuse and anger both Lauren and Matt.
To prevent losing the two people that have been there for her for as long as she can remember, Alex feels she owes it to them and herself to find out what it is about Dante that is pulling them apart. But once she delves into his world, Alex cannot go back. For Dante holds the key to the truth about her family. When Alex discovers what really happened to her parents, she unlocks an Australian secret kept hidden since the First Fleet.
But no truth comes without a cost. A secret of this magnitude has remained due to one simple rule: they join us or die. Suddenly, Matt and Lauren disappear and Dante's greatest battle begins. Can he truly save Alex? Or will Alex have to make the ultimate sacrifice, for those she loves?

My Review: A refreshing vampire story. This book is well written and the characters are all great, even the secondary ones. The story line is not forced and flows nicely with bits of the past added to add depth to the characters. There is plenty of action, suspense, power struggles, betrayal, love and lust. Unlike most vampire books and movies this book does not romanticize what vampires are. This book has more of a realistic and authentic take on the paranormal world. If you are a true fan of vampires then this is a must read.

Guarding Eden: A Midway Novel Book One (Hidden Wings)

Author: Cameo Renae
Genre: YA Fantasy

Blurb: Tucked away at an upscale, private boarding school in Brindle Hollow, Washington, seventeen-year-old Eden East comes face to face with a hideous creature on her walk back to her dorm. Shaken to her core, she's left questioning the world around her, and soon finds herself entering a friendship with a hot, new student named Alexander.
Little does she know, Alex is a Guardian Angel, sent from Midway to protect her from those dangerous creatures—known as Darkling—lurking in the forest outside Brindle Hall. It isn’t long before Alex learns this is no ordinary assignment. Eden’s existence holds a secret; something hidden from even herself.
Eden is thrust into a world where Fallen angels and creatures of the Underworld will stop at nothing to catch her. With Alex at her side and a little help from some of his old friends, they form a formidable front against the enemy.
Hopefully, it’s not too little, too late.
Guarding Eden is a Hidden Wings Spin-off Series and a Midway Novel.
Intended for Ages 15 and over

My Review: WOW! Guarding Eden is a spin off from the author's Hidden Wings" series. This book can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the Hidden Wings series first, it will give you background into some of the characters in this book, plus they are amazing books. This book is an awesome read in its own right. I set down this morning and started this book, here it is 12 hours later and I just finished. I lost a whole day trapped in this book unable to put it down. The two main characters Alex and Eden are perfect and the secondary characters brings the book to life. There is some suspense, action and even a few funny moments making this a great YA PNR book! A must read!

Mass Casualty: A Medical Thriller Romance

Author: Derek Adam
Genre: Medical Romance Thriller

Blurb: With 12 years under his belt as a highly-regarded paramedic in Detroit, Bobbie Badger has seen it all. Despite a tragic loss that shattered his home life, he has remained a stoic guardian to the city, committed to saving lives.
Until someone, or something, chose him as a target.
As ominous warnings surface, and those closest to him begin to turn up dead, Badger’s only salvation could rest with his estranged wife, Holly - a combat veteran, and sheriff’s deputy.
Will skill, passion, and determination be enough to overcome what hunts him?
Mature Content Warning: Mass Casualty is a medical thriller featuring two paramedics and includes elements of action, comedy, heroism, crime, mystery, and suspense. Some story elements are based on true patient encounters and could elicit a strong emotional response. As this book is also a second chance romance, there are erotica romance elements featuring explicit sexual scenes including light BDSM.

My Review: I borrowed this book on my Kindle Unlimited. This was the first book by this author that I have read and I believe this to be his debut novel. For a first book, this was pretty good. I enjoyed the story line and the characters were well written. There were a couple parts that bothered me. First, I was quick to figure out the who, I was hoping for more of a twist and to be wrong and shocked at the end but wasn't. I also expected some type of police presence at the hospital after the "accident" and there was none, for someone in the police cross hairs there was no sign of them. Over all a good book that I would recommend to others.

The controversy drives interest in the book through the roof, and although this pleases Ben's publisher, they ask him to confirm absolutely that the book is indeed his idea, as lawyers are now necessary.

Author Bio

I love writing adult paranormal fiction. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts....oh my. I've been writing since I was 11 but I've always been a dreamer......often getting caught staring off into space as I created stories in my mind.

When not spending time with family I enjoy dragging my forever patient wife to watch my beloved St George Illawarra Dragons, going to the movies for the latest blockbusters, going to the gym for my dream body. Or just a body. Anything, really.

My beautiful wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world. My fans have declared him the Prince of Speerverse and claim he seems to take after me in his want to build the tension as high as possible...making us and our loved ones wait 3 long days for him to make his entrance. My wife and I live with the love of our lives in Sydney, Australia; the setting for the majority of my works.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Welcome all.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Aaron L Speer author of The Undeadly Secrets Series and The Independents Series.

ME:  Hi Aaron, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about
yourself and your background?
AARON l SPEER: I’ve been writing since about 11. I finally got a kick up the arse to get a book down after some personal life drama. Using the rage and disappointment in a positive way. Since 2014 I've released 3 novels, 2 short stories, gotten married and had a son.

ME: I hear you recently became a daddy for the first time, how is fatherhood treating you?
AARON L SPEER: Absolutely amazing. Another dream I’ve had since a boy came true. Kaiden Leslie. Rough nights, lack of sleep and many frustrations. But he’s a beautiful little boy, loved by everyone. They want to steal him btw

ME: Any tricks or tips that have really helped you adjust to parenting?
AARON L SPEER: Listen to the mum lol. We try to work it out between ourselves what's going on. But she's with him 90% of the day while I work.

ME: Which writers inspire you?
AARON L SPEER: JK Rowling. Her story of rags to riches definitely. I think it shows that if you write for the love of books and telling a story you just HAVE to tell, not making money, you’ll always succeed

ME: What are you working on at the minute?
AARON L SPEER: Pack Master. Book 4 in the Undeadly Secrets series

ME: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
AARON L SPEER: Margot Robbie as Alex. Both cute, both blonde and both Australian

ME: When did you decide to become a writer?
AARON L SPEER: I didn't. I just get sensationally bored and my imagination just takes off. I drove my school teachers insane by finding doodles of mine about various torture devices I'd use on them should they give us any more homework. "Mr. Speer do you think this is funny?" "Absolutely hilarious" "Do you have any intent to carry out these threats?" "Of course not. If I did, they'd be MUCH worse"

ME: Do you write on a typewriter, computer, dictate or longhand?
AARON L SPEER: Mostly computer. But I’ve been known to go longhand when none are around

ME: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just to see where an idea takes you?
AARON L SPEER: Definitely a plotter. But not strict. The story goes in ebbs and flows. Sometimes one plot I have in mind just doesn’t match up later. Happens all the time

ME: Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors.
AARON L SPEER: Valerie Roeseler and Virginia Johnson are my fav indie authors. I don’t actually read as much as I should, I'm writing too much usually lol

ME: Do you think that giving books away free works and why?
AARON L SPEER: It depends on what you're aiming to do. To get people to be introduced to your work, to have knowledge a new person has the book? Sure. But works as in makes sales, generates new fans etc. then you still have to be
very lucky. The person may have heaps of books they have won or received, your just one. You have to hope they bump you up the list. You have to hope they love it AND will rave about it, THEN one click your others. There is a chance it could go either way, just like anything. I think it’s up to each individual author to decide what their expectations are when giving things away.

ME: How do you relax?
AARON L SPEER: Listen to music. It’s how I meditate

ME: What is your favorite book and why?
AARON L SPEER: The Godfather

ME: What is your favorite quote?
AARON L SPEER: “Live a good life. If there are gods, and they are just, you will be accepted into their afterlife based on that. If there are no gods, you have lived a good life, what does it matter? If there are Gods and they are unjust, why would you wish to exist in their presence?” - Marcus Aurelis Emperor of Rome

ME: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
AARON L SPEER: Go with your gut. And remember why you are doing this. For your love of stories

ME: What does your writing process look like?
AARON L SPEER: Long time staring at a screen. Chin in hand lol.

ME: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?
AARON L SPEER: Doubting as the story is coming together.

ME: Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?
AARON L SPEER: The settler. Where the inner monologues happen. Setting the building blocks in between the action scenes so they make sense. Characters thoughts etc. Trying to make the reader see things as I do in the story, because it doesn’t always happen

ME: Did you learn anything from writing your book(s) and what was it?
AARON L SPEER: To listen to the characters. They know more about themselves than I do

ME: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
AARON L SPEER: My amazing support group. Ladies that have been with me since the absolute beginning. Jo Lawless, Jess Davey and Alice Ballinger

ME: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
AARON L SPEER: Finding the time. Biggest issue

ME: What book are you reading now?
AARON L SPERR: Book of Souls by Steve Smithen

ME: What are your current projects?
AARON L SPEER: Pack Master. Book 4 in the Undeadly Secrets series

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to write about?
AARON L SPEER: Paranormal and fantasy

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to read?
AARON L SPEER: As above

ME: How can readers discover more about you and you work? i.e. Website: Blog: Facebook: Twitter: Lnkedin: Pinterest: Amazon Author Page: Smashwords: Book Links: (American, UK, etc.) Goodreads:
AARON L SPEER:

ME: Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?
AARON L SPEER: Thank you to any and all readers that might see this. I can’t tell you how much we as authors love you

ME: Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

AARON L SPEER: You are very welcome my dear. Anytime.
