Must Read Monday

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ THAT YOU SHOULD TOO!

X-Treme Confusion, book one

Author: Taylor Johns
Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Blurb: Bent over, ready and wanton.
No strings attached.
No second dates.
That’s the way I like things.
Fast, hard and easy cleanup.
I am a busy man with a dark past.
I don’t need the distraction or drama that comes from a real relationship.
Call me a jackass but at least I am honest about it.
There’s only one woman that makes me want more.
One woman who has worked her way into my soul. The thing is she doesn’t know it.
Soon, soon I will have her. But once I do, I know I will destroy her. My darkness will over take me and I will ruin the only good thing in my life.

My Review: This is the first book that I have read from the author and I am so glad I got the chance to read this one. The main male character Xavier (X) is one serious Alpha Male with major issues that makes you want to hate him but deep down has a sweet side that makes you fall in love with him. The main female character Lillian (Lilly) is a strong independent woman with a smart mouth that tells it like it is and take no crap from anyone especially from X. This book is hot and steamy from beginning to end. X and Lilly fight to avoid their attraction to each other knowing a relationship is a bad idea that can only end bad. When they can't keep their hands off each other, they have a hot and heavy world wind of fun until it is ruined by a cowardly mistake. Only a horrible tragedy can help them find their way back to each other. This book will take you on a wonderful emotional roller-coaster ride leaving you hot and breathless. I would recommend this book to any over 18 who is looking for sizzling page turner!

I Am ShelbyJames (Beauty in the Darkness Book 1)

Author: Brooke Lee
Genre: Bisexual Erotic Romance

Blurb: I am Shelby James - self-loathing poet and artist, daughter, sister, best friend, and bisexual commitment-phobe. My life has been a lackluster existence. The only constant bright spot in my life my best friend, my soul-mate, Veronica "Roni" Monroe.
For years, I have given into my lust for both men and women, but now, at the age of thirty-two, I realize I need more than just a booty call.
I need more.
While on my search for “more”, I find much more than I bargained for. This time, giving into my urges may destroy everything good in my life.
Follow me on my journey to find my happiness. To find the real me.
To find the beauty in the darkness.

My Review: First I must say I won a free e-copy of this book from author Brooke Lee with no promises of anything in return. The author tackles the difficult and sometimes taboo subject of bi-sexuality and does a wonderful job of it. The use of art and poetry as an outlet that the main character Shelby uses to help deal with her emotions, insecurities and bouts of depression that plaque her is awesome and easy to relate to. Even though this book could fall in the erotic category because of the hot, steamy sex scenes there is a really good plot about a struggling artist learning to love herself and except the love of others. I recommend this book to anyone over 18 and can't wait to read more from this author.

Night Walker (Undeadly Secrets Book 1)

Author: Aaron L Speer
Genre: Adult Paranormal Fiction

Blurb: Raised by her aunt as a baby after the death of her father and her mother being institutionalized, Alexandra "Alex" Hensley grew up determined to put the past behind her. As such, her boyfriend Matt and best friend Lauren, became her new family, and her love for them was unquestioned.
On a night out, the trio meet Dante Delavega, owner of the hottest nightclub in Sydney. Despite Lauren's advances, Delavega hovers over Alex like a mysterious, protective shadow, all but completely ignoring her friends. His actions flatter Alex but confuse and anger both Lauren and Matt.
To prevent losing the two people that have been there for her for as long as she can remember, Alex feels she owes it to them and herself to find out what it is about Dante that is pulling them apart. But once she delves into his world, Alex cannot go back. For Dante holds the key to the truth about her family. When Alex discovers what really happened to her parents, she unlocks an Australian secret kept hidden since the First Fleet.
But no truth comes without a cost. A secret of this magnitude has remained due to one simple rule: they join us or die. Suddenly, Matt and Lauren disappear and Dante's greatest battle begins. Can he truly save Alex? Or will Alex have to make the ultimate sacrifice, for those she loves?

My Review: A refreshing vampire story. This book is well written and the characters are all great, even the secondary ones. The story line is not forced and flows nicely with bits of the past added to add depth to the characters. There is plenty of action, suspense, power struggles, betrayal, love and lust. Unlike most vampire books and movies this book does not romanticize what vampires are. This book has more of a realistic and authentic take on the paranormal world. If you are a true fan of vampires then this is a must read.

Guarding Eden: A Midway Novel Book One (Hidden Wings)

Author: Cameo Renae
Genre: YA Fantasy

Blurb: Tucked away at an upscale, private boarding school in Brindle Hollow, Washington, seventeen-year-old Eden East comes face to face with a hideous creature on her walk back to her dorm. Shaken to her core, she's left questioning the world around her, and soon finds herself entering a friendship with a hot, new student named Alexander.
Little does she know, Alex is a Guardian Angel, sent from Midway to protect her from those dangerous creatures—known as Darkling—lurking in the forest outside Brindle Hall. It isn’t long before Alex learns this is no ordinary assignment. Eden’s existence holds a secret; something hidden from even herself.
Eden is thrust into a world where Fallen angels and creatures of the Underworld will stop at nothing to catch her. With Alex at her side and a little help from some of his old friends, they form a formidable front against the enemy.
Hopefully, it’s not too little, too late.
Guarding Eden is a Hidden Wings Spin-off Series and a Midway Novel.
Intended for Ages 15 and over

My Review: WOW! Guarding Eden is a spin off from the author's Hidden Wings" series. This book can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the Hidden Wings series first, it will give you background into some of the characters in this book, plus they are amazing books. This book is an awesome read in its own right. I set down this morning and started this book, here it is 12 hours later and I just finished. I lost a whole day trapped in this book unable to put it down. The two main characters Alex and Eden are perfect and the secondary characters brings the book to life. There is some suspense, action and even a few funny moments making this a great YA PNR book! A must read!

Mass Casualty: A Medical Thriller Romance

Author: Derek Adam
Genre: Medical Romance Thriller

Blurb: With 12 years under his belt as a highly-regarded paramedic in Detroit, Bobbie Badger has seen it all. Despite a tragic loss that shattered his home life, he has remained a stoic guardian to the city, committed to saving lives.
Until someone, or something, chose him as a target.
As ominous warnings surface, and those closest to him begin to turn up dead, Badger’s only salvation could rest with his estranged wife, Holly - a combat veteran, and sheriff’s deputy.
Will skill, passion, and determination be enough to overcome what hunts him?
Mature Content Warning: Mass Casualty is a medical thriller featuring two paramedics and includes elements of action, comedy, heroism, crime, mystery, and suspense. Some story elements are based on true patient encounters and could elicit a strong emotional response. As this book is also a second chance romance, there are erotica romance elements featuring explicit sexual scenes including light BDSM.

My Review: I borrowed this book on my Kindle Unlimited. This was the first book by this author that I have read and I believe this to be his debut novel. For a first book, this was pretty good. I enjoyed the story line and the characters were well written. There were a couple parts that bothered me. First, I was quick to figure out the who, I was hoping for more of a twist and to be wrong and shocked at the end but wasn't. I also expected some type of police presence at the hospital after the "accident" and there was none, for someone in the police cross hairs there was no sign of them. Over all a good book that I would recommend to others.

Meet the author - DEREK ADAM

Welcome all.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Derek Adam author of Mass Casualty (Now available) Due Soldati (now available) Veil of Darkness (coming October 31st, 2017)

ME:  Hi Derek, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about
yourself and your background?
DEREK ADAM: I grew up around the Metro Detroit area. I've bounced around a million gigs trying to find my place in life but I finally found it about a decade ago in writing. I've been a freelance marketing writer for a little over 10 years butt always wanted to write a book (fiction)
The career that impacted me the most was EMS. Met amazing people, saw some tragic stuff, saved plenty of people as well. It's what inspired my first book, Mass Casualty.

ME: What genre do you write?
DEREK ADAM: Thriller, mystery, romance (medical, fire, EMS) though Veil of Darkness will be my first paranormal romance.

ME: What are you working on at the minute?
DEREK ADAM: Two books actually - Veil of Darkness is the first of 3 books in a series around paranormal romance/thriller content. Another is Paramedic with Benefits which is a prequel of sorts to Mass Casualty but rather than being a medical thriller it's more of a medical romantic comedy.

ME: Can you share a little of your current work with us?
DEREK ADAM: I aaaabsolutely cannot. Not yet. Veil of Darkness is a bit hush hush at the moment but I will be sharing bits and snippets from it very soon with my followers in my reader groups on Facebook - Derek Adam's First Responders

ME: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
DEREK ADAM: I hadn't really given this any thought for Due Soldati, my most recent book which is a crime thriller romance. I've got two leads, the two Italian-American homicide detectives in Detroit that are both wildly different personalities.

ME: While you were writing, do you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
DEREK ADAM: I always try to inject myself, to some degree, into the
characters I write. While I can outline their personality layers to bring them to live I feel like giving them very real human qualities in terms of how I (or people I know) would respond to incidents gives them real depth.

ME: When did you decide to become a writer?
DEREK ADAM: Early in my youth. I've been cranking out stories for years. Thankfully, they're nowhere near as bad as the stuff I used to write when I was like 8 years old. lol

ME: Which writers inspire you?
DEREK ADAM: I've drawn a great deal of inspiration from both Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I use King as a reminder that you can find a story in almost everything due to the vast difference in the characters, worlds and stories he writers.
With Koontz, his style influenced my own a great deal.

ME: Do you write on a typewriter, computer, dictate or longhand?
DEREK ADAM: 99% on my laptop, though I'll sometimes pull out the phone or tablet when an idea hits me and I'll throw it into a google doc or memo so I don't forget it.

ME: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer to just see where an idea takes you?
DEREK ADAM: I develop a basic plot outline for how I want my stories to develop, especially when there are key story elements I want to hit on. Outside of the basic outline of major plot points I let the characters lead the way.

ME: Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors.
DEREK ADAM: I don't read nearly as much as I like but it's because I have a pretty solid schedule and deadlines for my books plus I'm a freelance writer and that fills my days. Not quite into fulltime writing yet so there isn't a ton of free time, and I have kids demanding my attention in the evenings.  I have plenty of favorites though like Amy Briggs, the guys in the Romance and Erotica author frat (Golden, BT, Scott Hildreth, Chris Genovese, Christopher Harlan, etc.) Mandi Beck, Shari Ryan, too long of a list to name em all.

ME: What book are you reading now?
DEREK ADAM: heh, nothing right now specifically. I've started probably a half dozen or more books that I'm trying to get through. hard to sit and read a single
one cover to cover.

ME: Do you think that giving books away free works and why?
DEREK ADAM: Does it work from a marketing perspective? Sure. You're giving something to your readers/followers as a reward for supporting you. If they read it and enjoy it they're going to recommend it to others. It builds your following, your sales, and expands the reach of your brand as an author.

ME: How do you relax?
DEREK ADAM: I love a good little binge of tv or a movie with my wife. If I can't do that then I'll tuck into some video games.

ME: What is your favorite quote?
DEREK ADAM: My own: The only person who can stop you from succeeding is you... get out of your way.

ME: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
DEREK ADAM: Stories don't have to be linear, they're like puzzles. Start building where pieces fit together and you'll eventually find the end.

ME: What does your writing process look like?
DEREK ADAM: I never stop working on my stories. I do something for them every day. If I can't get myself into writing mode then I'm researching and plotting so that the next time I write I have direction and ideas. I don't take a break from my stories until they're finished.

ME: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?
DEREK ADAM: Haven't found one yet, honestly. I love the whole thing. I have a marketing background, I love writing, I enjoy the publishing process. The entire thing has been pleasant for me across multiple books.

ME: Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?
DEREK ADAM: Nope. Not yet anyway. Hopefully I don't jinx that.

ME: Did you learn anything from writing your book(s) and what was it?
DEREK ADAM: Apparently, I'm really good at writing edge-of-seat action that keep the readers turning pages. Biggest complaint from readers is that they can't put my books down and wind up losing sleep until the book is finished.  oops?

ME: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
DEREK ADAM: It's too hard to name one person. I'd say my readers as a whole. I had people pushing me and loving my first book before it even published. I never imagined having fans/followers like that.  Those people, like my beta and ARC readers, really pushed me and motivated me to get it done.

ME: Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
DEREK ADAM: I feel like having a dinner and some beers with Seth Rogan would be a hell of an experience.

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to write about?
DEREK ADAM: So far, it's a toss-up between medical and law enforcement. I think the medical is the most enjoyable.

ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to read?
DEREK ADAM: High fantasy, like Lord of the Rings or the Dragonlance novels.

ME: What secret talents do you have?
DEREK ADAM: I can make a homemade pizza including homemade pizza sauce that tastes a million times better than anything you would ever get from a pizza restaurant. I sold my sauce at one point, but it was more for fun than anything else. People beg me to make it again but I only make limited batches
for personal use and to share with close friends and family.

ME: If you had a superpower, what would it be?
DEREK ADAM: The ability to move through time or control time without aging while time is being manipulated. Then I could get all the jobby shit done, work on my books when I wanted to, and never have to sacrifice time with family and friends.

ME: Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before? *
DEREK ADAM: The Fiji Islands

ME: How can readers discover more about you and you work? i.e. Website: Blog: Facebook: Twitter: Lnkedin: Pinterest: Amazon Author Page: Smashwords: Book Links: (* American, UK, etc.) Goodreads. Please include links or email them to me at vicber02@gmail.com *

DEREK ADAM: seriously... touch my butt.
