Welcome all.
Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Brooke
Lee author of The Beauty in the Darkness Series.
ME: Hi Brooke Lee, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell
us a little about yourself and your background?
BROOKE LEE: My mother has taught me my love of words and my father
was an artist. Between the two of them I learned a healthy appreciation for the
arts.
Poetry is in my blood and I am a
very visual person, so often my inspiration for a poem starts with an image. My
book I Am ShelbyJames was born from my poetry.
ME: Which writers inspire you?
BROOKE LEE: Honestly, there are so many. I will say the generosity
of Kendall Grey, Faith Gibson, Lainie Suzanne and Taylor Johns is most
inspirational. These authors share their time, knowledgeable, experience and
sometimes even a shoulder to other authors trying to make it in this business.
They understand there is room for all and encourage others.
ME: What are you working on at the minute?
BROOKE LEE: I have another book in my Beauty in the Darkness Series
started and 3 other stories in the works. What's next?? That's the question.
Only the voices know and so far, they haven't said.
ME: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead
character from your most recent book?
BROOKE LEE: I don't know really. Maybe Rumor Willis, she's got an
edge that might work for Shelby.
Me: When did you decide to become a writer?
BROOKE LEE: I never really made a conscious decision. I've always
been a writer, but I decided to try my hand at novel writing about three years
ago.
ME: Do you write on a typewriter, computer, dictate or longhand?
BROOKE LEE: I write on my laptop and phone sometimes. But I also
have journals all over the place with notes I jot down.
ME: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just to see
where an idea takes you?
BROOKE LEE: I just write the words that are whispered by my Muse.
ME: Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
BROOKE LEE: I read as much as I can. Sometimes too much and I
forget to stop reading and write.
ME: Do you think that giving books away free works and why?
BROOKE LEE: If you mean does it sell more books? I don't know. I
think it helps to get your name out there. But it's really difficult for new
writers to garner attention.
ME: How do you relax?
BROOKE LEE: I write poetry, listen to music and hang out with my
hubs and BFF.
ME: What is your favorite book and why?
BROOKE LEE: That's hard to answer. But I will say Backstage Pass by
Olivia Cunning is definitely in the running.
ME: What is your favorite quote?
BROOKE LEE: "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get
it." I don't know it's origination, my mom always says it.
ME: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
BROOKE LEE: Just write the story that's in your heart.
ME: What does your writing process look like?
BROOKE LEE: I am sort of an unorganized person. Never does my
process look the same. I write when the words come, no matter where I am.
ME: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing
process?
BROOKE LEE: Promotion! I don't like having to sell myself or beg
for sales.
ME: Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write
than others? Love? Action? Racy?
BROOKE LEE: Not really. I do find it challenging to come up with
new ways to write sex scenes. I never want my readers to feel they just read
the same thing five pages ago or in the last book they read.
ME: Did you learn anything from writing your book(s) and what was
it?
BROOKE LEE: I learned that it's not easy, but so with it. I
received the gift of pride in myself the moment I hit publish.
ME: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family
members.
BROOKE LEE: Faith Gibson has been my mentor, my rock and my support
from the moment I decided to write. Without her I would never have finished anything.
ME: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your
writing?
BROOKE LEE: Finding the time to write. It becomes an all-consuming
activity and I feel guilty for neglecting the rest of my life.
ME: What book are you reading now?
BROOKE LEE: I am currently reading a WIP from another author.
ME: What are your current projects?
BROOKE LEE: I have 4 books in the works now.
ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to write about?
BROOKE LEE: Poetry is my favorite, bit I seem to be pretty good at
Erotica.
ME: What is your favorite theme/genre to read?
BROOKE LEE: Romance of any sort.
ME: How can readers discover more about you and you work? i.e.
Website: Blog: Facebook: Twitter: Lnkedin: Pinterest: Amazon Author Page:
Smashwords: Book Links: (* American, UK, etc.) Goodreads:
BROOKE LEE:
ME: Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t
included?
BROOKE LEE: I just want people to enjoy my words. Set aside
societal norms and read my work because the stories are good, the writing is
good and it made them feel something.
ME: Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy
schedule to take part in this interview.
BROOKE LEE: I'm excited to have been asked, thank you.
***Brooke Lee’s REFLECTING RONI blog tour birthday bash is July
16-20th! I also have it on authority that Brooke's birthday occurs during this
event and she always throws a great party. Come check out the party and RSVP

What in inspiring and encouraging, thoughtful interview. I know Brooke's writing well and am honored to be engaged with her Birthday/Reflecting Roni tour. She is a wonderful poet and what she neglected to add is that much of her work shows up as a cameo in many other authors books, she is that admired. Good Luck with the Tour and Happy Birthday! You Go Girl!! <3 ~ MW
